Objectified Senses
This project uses the five senses as a stimulus; I wanted to explore the notion of creating visuals for sensual experiences. Each image is of an object used to facilitate one of the five senses. I used marble inks to obscure the photogram image, therefore visualising the experience of using the objects to stimulate our sense of Sight, Sound, Touch, Taste and Smell. Socially as humans there is a lot that can divide us, however one of the things that unite us all is the biology of our bodies and our senses which we use to experience the world through - despite our interpretations of those experience differing. I tried to represent the uniting of people groups by researching and applying the use of Aboriginal art techniques together with the bright colours used in African art, marbling which has its roots in Japan and photographic processes developed in its current form in Europe. However the cultures I have left out I tried to represent through the patterns painted or the objects used.
