Once a upon a time...... 2013
This series of work was originally created for The Wilding Festival however also coincided with turning 30 in July which made me explore the influences that have contributed to my self-identity as a woman. I've been exploring the psychology behind some of the social desires I have and am told I should have in place by now and their origins.
Therefore I started to look at some of the strongest influences in my childhood and started to re-read some of my favorite fairy tales by the brothers Grimm, Hans Christian Anderson and C.S Lewis to name a few and discovered the notion of getting married, settling down and having children could be rooted in the hidden message behind those pages to "live happily ever after" by a certain time.
So I went about asking friends and family about their favourite fairy tale heroines and how they felt they have related to the story and if they feel the hidden message of the tale has altered their expectations on their current reality and future desires.
